You are cute, own it. That being said a lot of the times shyness acts a sort of social handicap, people don't want to hang with people who stare at the ground, cross their arms, and refuse to talk. This is how shy people come off to non-shy people--cold, unapproachable and snobbish, when we are usually anything but these things. Body language is so key, exude some confidence, put your shoulders back, make eye contact, and *smile* and lots of people are going to be more willing to talk to you. But none of these things will help you if you're still inside your house. ;) It's sort of like realty, location, location, location, is key when making friends. If you don't put yourself out there, no one will get the chance to get know you. Join a book club, hit your sister/cousin/coworker up for some invites, place an ad on craig's list, lol, i dunno there are lots of things you can do and I suggest go out and actually doing them. :)
